Behavior Counseling:
Your pet has a behavior problem. You have tried to
find help but the advice obtained
from your family, friends, co-workers, books, and/or other
trainers is either confusing or conflicting or simply not
worked with your dog.
What will I do differently to address your pet's behavior
problem?
One, I work with a full "toolbox" (knowledge of both
training and behavior modification). When a pet has a
behavior problem, often the pet's underlying
emotion(s) about the triggering mechanism must be addressed
to achieve a successful resolution. Behavior modification
goes far beyond mere obedience training and refers to
everything related to establishing, modifying
and/or eliminating a particular behavior and, if necessary, the
underlying
emotion(s) associated with that behavior.
Two, I do not dole out information to increase my fee.
I quote two flat fees: the initial evaluation fee and,
if applicable,
a behavior modification program fee.
Not every dog needs a behavior
modification program. If I can provide you with a
simple handout or recommend changes that will resolve the problem,
I will provide them at no additional charge. If a behavior modification
plan is necessary, I will recommend that.
No
estimate for services other than the initial evaluation is
possible until the initial evaluation stage is complete.
The following fees are for one dog only and not
applicable to multiple dog situations. Additional dogs
are at a discounted fee.
If your pet has a minor behavior problem, the
evaluation fee ranges from
"no charge" to $75.00 -- depending on the
problem.
If your
pet has a more serious problem, or
multiple problems, an initial consult is
required. An initial consult ranges from $75 to $150,
again, depending on the
problem(s). The fee includes all phone calls
in relation to the evaluation, preparing and sending behavior history
questionnaire and applicable screening
forms,
review of the forms after you have completed and returned
them, meeting with you to observe your pet (if necessary),
preparation of the evaluation, suggested plan of action,
possible referral to your veterinarian for medical tests
that may be needed, and
providing an estimate for actual behavior modification
services should they be needed.
In regard to the actual behavior modification program, to-date, fees have ranged from no additional charge
to $380 for services related to a behavior modification program.
